Another Successful National Leadership Conference for Nevada FBLA

By Brandon Callahan, Nevada FBLA State Reporter
Wow! What a year! Nevada FBLA ended its year with the 2008 Institute for Leaders and National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Nevada had one hundred and three qualifying members attend and twenty-one advisers, which is a great boost from last year. The State Management Team and state officers were so excited to have such a wonderful group. All members stayed at the Hyatt Regency and one member stated that “the rooms were really nice and I liked that the meeting rooms were close to our rooms” said Alyssa Hurst, Boulder City High School.
Nevada FBLA had two fun and exciting activities at Nationals. The first activity happened the day after the delegation arrived in Atlanta, GA. Nevada went to Six Flags Over Georgia for a fun in the sun day trip. Members and advisers wore their red Nevada FBLA shirts to identify each other as members from Nevada, which really helped in finding and meeting new members. “Best part of the whole week” quoted one member, which is what most members said when asked. The state officers also delivered pizza one night to every member to show their appreciation and to congratulate all of them on making it to Nationals.
Nevada did very well in the National Awards Program. The team of Alexander Ciucci and Andrew Hosea from Palo Verde High School placed third in the nation for Global Business, which provides new markets and investment opportunities as well as promotion of better relationships with other countries. Carmen Puentes and Nicolas Rosa from Advanced Technologies Academy in Nevada placed second in Emerging Business Issues, an event that provides FBLA members with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate skills in researching and presenting an emerging business issue. Alex Stout of Elko High School placed eighth in Business Communication and two members, Dakota Zablow and Carrollynn Peterson of Spring Creek High School, were finalists in E-Business. Cesar Luna of Spring Creek High School and Christopher Williams of Galena High School were also recognized with the Who’s Who in FBLA award.
Nevada FBLA would like to thank Southeast Career and Technical Academy for one-hundred percent participation in the March of Dimes March for Babies event and congratulate Christopher Williams for representing Nevada this past year on the national level as National Western Region Vice President. Nevada FBLA would also like to thank all the qualified members for participating and doing such a good job and all the others who made it so far and participated at 2008 IFL and NLC.
